Speeding to the Macau Grand Prix Museum

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Grand Prix in Macau, the Macau Grand Prix Museum was inaugurated in 1993. The aim of the museum was to not only encourage a deeper relationship between Macau’s population and this social and sporting event, but to also encourage foreign visitors to see this event as a great tourist opportunity. Luckily, efforts paid off as the Grand Prix in Macau gained a renowned place among international championships.

The Macau Grand Prix is an automobile and motorbike racing competition that is held yearly during November. Starting back in 1954 due to a group of enthusiastic Macau residents and with the support of Macau authorities, the Grand Prix was born. It was then developed and enhanced through the years for more than five decades.

This international sporting event attracts thousands of racing enthusiasts and tourists around the world to Macau. The Guia Race and the Formula 3 Grand Prix remain some of the most sought-after racing competitions during the entire event. The races take place in a street circuit with definite characteristics which have historically led to much comparison to the Monte Carlo Races. The Grand Prix has then been developed into a race that draws in participation from great names in the motor racing world. Due to the precision imposed on the drivers, it has also worked as a launching platform for many racers’ names, some of which have found their place at the Macau Grand Prix Museum.

The Grand Prix Museum is an exhibit that displays all things related to the racing competition. Photos, videos, illustrated articles, cups, records of champions and other commemorative items can all be seen at the museum. The museum has truly become a must-see destination for all F1 enthusiasts. More than 20 formula cars and motorcycles that were once driven by world renowned drivers such as Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard and Eduarfo de Carvalho are on exhibit. But the most eye-catching race car in the museum is placed in the center of the hall. This race car was previously driven by Aryton Senna, who was a famed formula car driver who passed away at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. On display is his white and red Formula 3 racing car along with his racing cloth and helmet.

In addition to racing cars, the museum helps visitors better understand the narration of the Grand Prix racing competition through the years. Some breathtaking grand prix scenes in Macau as well as in other countries are on display. Even better, race car simulators are available to enable visitors to experience how to race on challenging tracks at extremely high speeds.

The museum is located in the Tourism Activities Center along Rua Luis Gonzaga Gomes. In lieu with the 50th anniversary of the Grand Prix in Macau, the museum underwent a renovation in the charge of the Macau Tourism Bureau making the Macau Grand Prix Museum an even more ideal tourist destination. Surely, the museum represents the history of one of the most exciting races in the world and a collection of some of the most magnificent machines ever invented.
